Objectives
To provide employees with the knowledge required to undertake their role as Fire Wardens, and to enable them to select the correct First Aid Fire Appliance (FAFA) if required to put out a fire in its’ early stages:
At the end of this session participants will be
able to:
List their obligations and that of their employer with regard to fire safety
Describe actions to be taken in the event of a fire occurring at work
Identify the correct fire extinguisher for use on a range of different fires
Describe how fires occur and spread
Describe how they can reduce the risk of fire occurring
Understand how they may reduce the threat of fire in their homes (where applicable) Understand the duties that are undertaken by the fire marshal.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the fire safety awareness training course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the fundamental principles of fire, including its components and
- Demonstrate clear and immediate response strategies upon the discovery of a
- Recognise and respond appropriately to various fire alarm
- Differentiate between the types of fire extinguishers and determine their specific.
Course Outline
1. Understanding of Fire Basics
- Introduction to the ‘fire triangle’ and its components.
- Explanation of the characteristics and behaviour of fire under different conditions.
- How fire spreads and the importance of controlling fuel, heat, and oxygen.
2. Discovery of Fire
- Immediate steps to take when discovering a fire.
- How to safely alert others and activate the emergency alarm system.
- The importance of remaining calm and ensuring personal safety first.
3. Responding to Fire Alarms
- Recognising different fire alarm sounds and their meanings.
- Correct procedures to follow when a fire alarm sounds (e.g. evacuation routes, assembly points).
- The importance of not using lifts and staying calm during evacuation.
4. Fire Extinguisher Types and Usage
- Overview of the different types of fire extinguishers (water, foam, dry powder, CO2, etc.).
- Matching fire extinguishers with the appropriate fire types.
- Step-by-step demonstration of the P.A.S.S. method (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep) for using a fire extinguisher.
By the end of the fire safety training offered onsite, participants will have a better understanding of how fires start, how to respond effectively, and how to safely use fire extinguishers in case of emergency.
